Old Enchanted Balete Tree

Description

Siquijor’s most iconic natural landmark — an estimated 400+ year old balete (banyan) tree in Barangay Campalanas, Lazi, roughly 30 minutes from the port/San Juan. The tree predates the nearby Lazi Church, likely marking a pre-colonial sacred site — local oral history holds it was already ancient when Spanish missionaries arrived. Free to visit (open 8am-5pm daily); a small ~₱20 fee lets you dip your feet in the natural spring pool at the tree’s base for a ‘fish spa’ (small fish nibble dead skin), with bait sold separately (~₱50-100). Central to Siquijor’s folk-healing reputation and worth combining with a Lazi Church/Convent visit given the proximity.
