Description

Banana farming in the coastal and inland barangays of Guihulngan. In Guihulngan, a northeast coastal city midway up the Oriental side. Bananas here are several distinct varieties — saba for cooking into banana cue, turon and ginanggang; lakatan and latundan for eating fresh. Coconut groves feed three chains at once: copra, sap for tuba and vinegar, and fresh buko. Roadside stalls beside the groves are the cheapest place to buy either.

Tips
A genuine working city with no tourist infrastructure — expect local prices and no English menus. The best break point on the long east-coast drive between Dumaguete and San Carlos.
