Cauayan Coconut Belt
Description
Coconut groves in Cauayan coastal barangays. In Cauayan, a southwest coastal town north of Sipalay. Bananas here are several distinct varieties — saba for cooking into banana cue, turon and ginanggang; lakatan and latundan for eating fresh. Coconut groves feed three chains at once: copra, sap for tuba and vinegar, and fresh buko. Roadside stalls beside the groves are the cheapest place to buy either.
Tips
Danjugan Island is the reason most people come, and trips need arranging in advance rather than turning up. Punta Bulata is the base for it. Fish drying sheds are along the shore road and visible without stopping.
