Unmarked Reefs
Description
88 reef features around Negros Island are logged in the underlying map data only as generic points — unnamed, numbered, or labelled simply ‘sanctuary’ with nothing to distinguish one from the next. These sit alongside Negros’ well-known reefs (Carbin, the Sagay Marine Reserve system, the Sipalay wreck sites) but have never been individually documented anywhere. For anyone into fishing or exploratory snorkeling with their own boat, this is as close to unclaimed water as the island has left.
Tips
Local boatmen will often know these reefs even without a proper name — describe the location rather than expecting a name to mean anything to them. Conditions (visibility, current, depth) are completely unverified, so treat every trip as a first-time scouting run, not a guaranteed dive site. Bring your own gear; there"s no dive shop attached to any of these.
