Description

Coastal fish drying area on the north east coast. In Guihulngan, a northeast coastal city midway up the Oriental side. Landings run on the boats, not on shop hours — the catch comes ashore early and is gone to the markets by mid-morning. Buying at the landing means lower prices and whatever came in that day rather than a choice. Worth timing a visit at first light if you want to see how the day’s supply actually starts.

Tips
A genuine working city with no tourist infrastructure — expect local prices and no English menus. The best break point on the long east-coast drive between Dumaguete and San Carlos.
Stops
Dumaguete–Valencia Food Belt
How to get there
East-coast highway, roughly 3 hours north of Dumaguete or 2-3 hours south of San Carlos by Ceres bus.
Best Times
Early morning — markets, landings and roadside stalls all run hardest before 8am.
