Twin Lakes (Balinsasayao & Danao)
Description
Two crater lakes — Balinsasayao and Danao — inside Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park, high in the mountains of Sibulan (some sources place the park boundary in Valencia), roughly 1,000 feet above sea level and under an hour from Dumaguete. Reached by scooter/motorbike rental (~$8/day) or hired car, since public transport doesn’t run all the way up. Two rules consistently surprise first-time visitors: swimming is strictly prohibited (the lake is a city water source), and drones are banned park-wide after an incident where a bird was killed and a drone crashed into the lake — the ban is actively enforced. Activities center on trekking, birdwatching, and boating on Danao rather than swimming. Gates close around 5pm, so plan to arrive with several hours to spare. Frequently combined with Casaroro Falls as a single-day itinerary.
