Description

Heritage house museum — the Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral House, built 1897-1901, and the first museum established in Negros Occidental. Victor Gaston was the eldest son of Yves Leopold Germain Gaston, the Frenchman credited as the ‘Father of the Sugar Industry’ in Negros for bringing the first iron sugar mill to the island. The house held his 12 children, was abandoned in the mid-1970s, then restored and reopened for public viewing. Neo-Renaissance bahay na bato style; notable interior pieces include an atypical staircase, an early motorized bicycle, a Chickering Boston piano, and a family tree tracing the Gastons to present-day heirs. Open Tuesday-Sunday 9am-5:30pm, closed Mondays. Entrance around ₱60 adults, ₱30 students/seniors/children. NOTE: recent reviews report the house has been temporarily closed for renovation with no posted reopening date — confirm before sending visitors. Roughly 0.2km (3 min walk) from Silay Public Plaza.
