Mameng’s Painitan

Middle stall in the Katada Street painitan row, in the heart of Dumaguete’s public market breakfast section. The row functions as a single continuous strip rather than separate destinations — regulars often move between stalls for different items, since not every stall carries the same mix of puto, budbud, sikwate/tsokolate, coffee, bibingka, or banana cue. Trade here starts before dawn, roughly 3:30–4:30am, timed for early churchgoers and market workers, and runs through into the early afternoon at most stalls. Seating is open-air benches shared across the row, with no walls or air conditioning. Cash remains the standard way to pay, although GCash, Maya, and PalawanPay QR codes have been rolling out at painitan stalls on this street since 2024. No wheelchair access.
